Home / poetry / Love O’ God In Clover BySheila Dougal March 17, 2022 Oh Ireland, I am your daughterGenerations removed but not the wonderDrawn to your lore and mysteryI’ve dreamed of you across the sea. I am a mut, a mix of kinGrown up in Poor Town, OregonMy father’s chin, red beard covered,Reminds me of a special clover I walked along a mossy pathIn Oregon’s green wildernessMy broken heart longed for anotherThat’s when I saw God’s love in clover Oh Ireland, your hills are greenYour son, Patrick, helped me believeWhen once I saw that sign of loveI prayed, “Oh Lord, bless Ireland” You love me, LordI saw that dayA sure signNone can take away For there amidst green hearts of cloverA blood red heart made me to wonder
